As with most building projects there are many different ways to Managing Rainwater run off - Gutter selection. With even more options to choose from than ever before, so which is the best guttering option for your new patio/ home addition.
We have taken some time to go through the different styles of gutter, not only the shape or look, but how it fixes to the structure and how it will function.
There are two methods of fixing a gutter to your structure,
Using the correct internal gutter bracket and fixing off to the fascia. i.e. Email® or M pattern gutter, or Quad gutter.
Fixing the gutter directly to the roof. i.e. Fitfast® or S pattern gutter
The first option (M pattern & Quad both use an internal bracket) this is the one we recommend as the brackets are installed to the fascia first with a fall. We recommend 3mm per metre of fall. This way the rainwater can be managed off the roof and away from the structure effectively, even in the most severe of storms.
The second option is gutter fixed directly to the underside of the roof sheet, and then a stiffener strap is installed on the top of the roof to steady the gutter. This design is not one we recommend, as there is no real way to get a fall in the gutter, apart from building the roof out of level. The result is usually a gutter system that cannot manage a severe storm, and a gutter that holds water even after the storm has passed. The option can be to install more down pipes, but this in itself can cause complications to the project.
We are always more than happy to discuss these options with you and to arrive at a solution that suits you best.

(Picture) M Pattern gutter - A square shaped Gutter with Large drainage capacity.
(Picture) Quad gutter - A D shaped Gutter with Large drainage capacity best for high rain fall as this gutter comes in 3 sizes
The number of drop nozzles installed will also assist with taking water away quicker, reducing the chance of back up and over flow.
We recommend if you have a post and can put in a down pipe then do so.
